Casting Bug on Google TV and YouTube Music (Update)
Recently I came across a bug on Threads found by @zaktalkstech with Google TV:
Android 17 update BROKE "Connect TV" in the Google TV app 🫤
I updated to Android 17 on my Pixel 10 Pro two days ago. Last night I wanted to cast my purchase of Mortal Kombat 2 to my Living Room TV Chromecast Ultra.
Our Chromecast Ultras (2 of them), Pixel 10 Pro and everything is on the same 5 GHz wifi, being fed by 1.5 Gig fibre to the house. My phone could not find either one of my Chromecast Ultras.
After doing some digging, we've found out that it's not worth Android 17, but it's with the latest Google TV version 4.39.4536.917279442.1-release. Google Cast no longer can find your smart displays or TVs within the app.
Well, unfortunately the similar type of bug is being found on YouTube Music version 9.24.51 reported by yours truly:
After updating to version 9.24.51 com.google.android.apps.youtube.music, I can no longer cast my media to any of my smart speakers and displays.
When tapping the "Cast" button, none of my devices show up to choose to cast.
Uninstalling the update and going back to version 9.10.52 com.google.android.apps.youtube.music fixes it but as of right now, this latest update has a bug.
I'll continue to do more digging, but you can see what happens when you try to cast when updated here.
Update: Google TV (version 4.39.4634.929699066.1-release)
Google published an update for Google TV that has fixed this issue for me. I've updated my initial Google TV community post about this, but will wait on the YouTube Music fix.
Fix: YouTube Music
It looks like the fix for the YouTube Music was just re-enabling the "Nearby Devices" permissions in the App Info. Simple fix and as soon as I did that the issue was resolved.
